T-Shirt Designs
Here are the proposed t-shirt designs. There are a couple that, if chosen, we'll have to tweek in order to simplify. For example, some of them have a falcon on the front and the back which are different. Think about the front and back designs separately. If you like the "back" of a shirt because of the falcon, don't take into consideration the front. Just vote on which pair and if you prefer the first or the second one. Whichever is chosen, I'll work with the student on getting it simplified.

Fake Album Covers
The rules for this are simple.
Step one: Go to Wikipedia and scroll down to the word "commons." From here, click on "random file," on the left side. Ideally, you'll end up at a photograph. Sometimes, it's a map or a drawing or something else with text already. If any of these is the case, keep hitting "random file" until you come to a photograph. This will be the image for the album cover.
Step two: Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/special: random. The title of the article that comes up will be the band name.
Step three: Go to http://www.quotationspage.com/random. This will give you a random list of quotations. Find the shortest line. If it's more than one sentence, pick the first sentence as your album title.
The great thing about this exercise is that, if done correctly, the designer won't spend so much time trying to find the perfect image. It's fascinating just how well these random search criteria will go together.

Victor's sketchbook
The students have been busy lately, designing their "Self Collages," using Adobe Photoshop. I hope to have several of those posted next week. In the meantime, I wanted to show some student sketchbook work from the past few weeks.Victor is a Junior and one of our most promising students. A former gang member, he left this lifestyle behind several years ago and, today, downplays any prior involvements. He has been very active in the anti-gang movement that is being developed within our school (I'll keep you posted on the developments of "A Better KCK" as they occur). Victor is also a new dad. Two weeks ago, his girlfriend (another of my prized students who graduated last year) gave birth to a baby boy.
Victor loves Art and isn't afraid to try new things. Since he's a few days ahead of the class on the current project, and has been badgering me to learn how to use the scanner, I asked him to capture some images from his sketchbook. This was in hopes of having a couple of his Victor Jr. portraits. Unfortunately, he ran out of time.

Math Relays Team T-Shirt
On February 21, Fairfax Campus will be participating in the 2009 Math Relays. For their current project, my middle schoolers have been working hard to design team T-shirts. So far, I've been blown away by the results.
